I bring to my mediation cases my background and skill in dealing with couples in conflict, and helping clients resolve any distress and disagreement with sensitivity and empathy. I was trained and certified at Divorce Mediation Training Inc, RI, and offer this service separate from my Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist work.
Mediation takes less time and is far less expensive than contested divorces through attorneys. A typical litigated divorce can run two to ten times higher in cost than mediation, but just as important is avoiding the heartbreak and hostility that can come with a protracted courtroom battle, with its harmful impact on the family. While the average divorce through lawyers can take anywhere from eighteen months to two years, mediation happens at a pace comfortable to the parties and can be finalized in a few sessions over the course of a few weeks.
Couples enter into mediation services with a view to reaching an agreement and completing a Memorandum of Understanding (a written summary of the negotiated settlement) to submit to the court for a final Judgment of Divorce, within six to ten weeks. The exact length of time depends, of course, on the complexity of the issues and the commitment of the parties to reach an agreement out of court.
Please call for a consultation or if you have any questions about the process.
